The short version

177 of 234 categories charge 0% referral fee at ₹999. For most of them the zero band ends at ₹1,000 — one rupee above it and the full category rate applies to the whole price.

Above ₹1,000, rates run up to 30%. For example at ₹1,500: shirts 21%, shorts 24%, baby apparel 7%, headphones 18%, power banks & chargers 20.5%. Some categories charge a fee at every price — mobiles 5%, laptops 6%, TVs 6%.

Referral is a percentage of the item price. Closing and weight-handling fees come on top, and Amazon adds 18% GST to all of them.

Moving from ₹999 to ₹1,049 loses ₹36,002 a month. On these numbers you'd have to price at ₹1,269 just to earn what ₹999 earns — if your product can't sell there, stay at or under ₹1,000.

Fees on top of referral

  • Closing fee — a fixed fee per item that depends on price band, fulfilment channel (FBA, Easy Ship, Self Ship, Seller Flex) and category group. From 7 September 2026 Amazon raised it by ₹1 for items up to ₹500 and by ₹3 above ₹500. Amazon publishes the full table as images, so check your exact figure in Seller Central's fee preview.
  • Weight handling (shipping) — charged for FBA and Easy Ship in 500 g steps (minimum 500 g) on the higher of actual or volumetric weight, where volumetric weight = length × breadth × height (cm) ÷ 5,000. Self Ship pays no Amazon shipping fee; you pay your own courier.
  • FBA pick & pack — ₹17 per standard item up to 1 kg, plus ₹5 per extra kg up to 5 kg. Storage — ₹50 per cubic foot per month.
  • GST — 18% on all of the above; Amazon lists fees excluding GST.

What is the Amazon referral fee?

It's Amazon's commission on each sale — a percentage of the item price that depends on your category and price band. It's charged on top of closing and weight-handling fees, plus 18% GST.

Is the Amazon referral fee 0% below ₹1,000?

For most categories, yes: 177 of 234 categories charge 0% at ₹999. Some don't — mobiles (5%), laptops (6%) and several electronics, books and medicine categories charge a fee at every price. Search your category in the table above.

Is the referral fee charged on the full price or only the part above ₹1,000?

On the full item price. Once your price crosses into a higher band, that band's rate applies to the whole price — which is why pricing just above ₹1,000 can earn less than pricing at ₹999.

How often does Amazon change referral fees?

Several times a year. In 2026 Amazon revised fees in March, changed tyre and fan/robot-vacuum rates on 10 June, and raised closing fees on 7 September. We re-verify against Amazon's fee page and show the date at the top.
