A D2C kurta with a ₹900 product cost, 400 orders a month, 65% COD with a 28% COD RTO rate, 6% returns and ₹30,000 of ad spend. GST is included in the price the customer pays, so a higher rate comes straight out of your revenue.

FAQ
What is the GST rate on clothes in 2026?

5% for apparel with a sale value up to ₹2,500 per piece, and 18% above ₹2,500, since 22 September 2025. Before that it was 5% up to ₹1,000 and 12% above.

What is the GST rate on footwear now?

5% for footwear up to ₹2,500 a pair (down from 12%) and 18% above ₹2,500, since 22 September 2025.

How much TCS does Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho deduct?

0.5% of your net taxable sales under Section 52 of the CGST Act (0.25% CGST + 0.25% SGST, or 0.5% IGST). It was cut from 1% on 10 July 2024. You can claim it back as a credit, so it affects cash flow rather than profit.

Do I pay GST on marketplace commission and fees?

Yes, 18% GST on commission, closing, shipping and other platform fees. If you're GST-registered, you can usually claim it as input tax credit.

Is GST part of my profit?

No. GST in your selling price belongs to the government, so our calculators remove it before counting revenue — that's why a higher GST rate lowers your profit even at the same price.
